I had undergone 2 shoulder surgeries under the NHS at Southend Hospital, initially they appeared to have solved the problems but I was left with limited movement and from my viewpoint a poor follow up after the surgery. A friend noticed that I was still struggling with movement in my arm and recommended Mr Lambert as someone who from his own experience would be the best shoulder man to have a consultation with. He was absolutely correct in that he was so caring, sympathetic and patient with me and exuded confidence to the point that I immediately felt that I was no longer a lost cause. He gave me great information about the procedure he would undertake which left me feeling totally relaxed in his hands. The operation was duly undertaken at The Spire, Bushey and for my part was an absolute success, I have subsequently been pain free and hope that the physio I am about to undertake will give me rather more movement in my arm than prior to the procedure. In summary I would say that from a scenario that was totally debilitating dealing with the NHS the contrast being in the hands of Mr Lambert was manifold, I am a disciple and now recommend him to anybody who has shoulder problems. I live in Leigh on Sea (Southend) and the only problem for us (my wife and I) was the drive to Bushey, but have to say the outcome more than compensated for this. Thank you Mr Simon Lambert!

If you are looking for one of the leading shoulder surgeons, then look no further. Mr Lambert is renowned for his expertise and results. I suffered a freak accident while in the ocean, that resulted in a shoulder dislocation, rotator cuff tear and sub-total ligament detachment. During my research I discovered Mr Simon Lambert who is a leading consultant at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, and I booked to see him under a private consultation at the Spire Hospital in Bushey, via his excellent and most helpful secretary Stephanie. Mr Lambert very quickly put me at ease with his relaxed yet professional approach. After a physical examination of my shoulder, he immediately sent me for a MRI Scan; which to arrange at 7pm in the evening again demonstrates his care towards his patients. He explained the MRI results and what options I had - including if I settled to do nothing and live with the injury. He clearly described what a surgical procedure would involve, and the short-term impact this would have on work, driving, sports etc. I opted for surgery in March 2014, where Mr Lambert performed an open repair and reattachment of the tendon. I am now having physiotherapy, which is being monitored by Mr Lambert, and the recovery is going very well. If you want the very best care, then you have found it with Mr Simon Lambert.

Mr Lambert is a good clinician and also a very good listener. He has a very gentle manner and is thorough in his assessments. Once he has assessed, he gives his opinions in a clear and understandable manner and always ensures that the patient understands and is fully aware of the full implications of his findings. I am very confident with Mr Lambert's work and will happily recommend him to anyone with a shoulder problem.

Every consultant should be like Simon Lambert. After five years of pain and fruitless visits to try and resolve the source of my elbow pain, and being dismissed by MSK and a previous consultant, I finally feel confident that there will be a resolution. He is one of the few people who truly understand the implications of my underlying condition, EDS Type 3 and this is a rare experience for me. I would highly recommend him to anyone, but especially to those with EDS. I feel like I finally have some answers, and a way forward out of the pain. I feel secure that any treatment that I have will be the best option for me in light of my EDS. He looks at the bigger picture and is genuinely interested and understanding.

Profile

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in the shoulder and elbow. I also hold an honorary academic appointment within University College London. Having worked at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), a specialist orthopaedic hospital, where I created a research-active, educationally-acclaimed, science-based service, integrated with and recognising the extreme importance of expert rehabilitation, I have now moved to University College London Hospital. We enjoy a national reputation for clinical excellence and clinical research, which I fully expect to contribute to over the next decade. We value our national and international collaborations, and expect to develop these further with the evolution of the service. As a component of this effort my work with the AO has offered opportunities to younger colleagues while bringing the values of the AO to a wide variety of surgeons and therapists. Truly international collaboration and exchange of ideas clearly enhances and promotes the efficacy of patient-directed care and forms the basis for the motivation behind my development of the shoulder and elbow service at UCLH.
